Dr. Bev Wiens, Ph.D., M.F.T., joined the faculty at Western Seminary on July 1st, 2014. She is directing the Master or Arts in Counseling program at the Sacramento campus. She came to Western Seminary from William Jessup University, where she founded and chaired the undergraduate psychology program. Additionally, she has been employed as a teacher at West Valley College, San Jose City College, and San Jose State University.
Bev earned a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Northern California Graduate University, an M.A. in Child Development/Family Relations from San Jose State University and an M.A. in Counseling from Santa Clara University. Her research passion centers in the study of human attachments and their correlations with attachment to God. She believes that God has designed us to live in intimate relationship with one another and with Him, and that our human intimacies are a rehearsal for intimacy with God. This study was the focus of her dissertation and continues to be a central organizing principle in all of her teaching.
On the personal side, Bev enjoys making a home for her family. She’s been married 51 years to Gary Wiens, who is retired from work in law enforcement. They have 2 daughters, Nicole and Katie, a son in law, Andrew, who is married to their oldest daughter Nicole, and four grandchildren who are the love of her life.
